I found this course to be extremely interesting and fun. It was a great learning experience. I feel I not only overall grew as a student and a writer but also as a teenager living in this current day. This course has given me a completely different perspective on how I view the mass media and my understanding of media literacy. It was shocking to see how invested we really on into our screens and how we can be controlled by the media. With that being said, I found the advertising topic and assignment most interesting. I was amazed on how convincing advertising can be and how they do anything in their power to flood our media content with their commercials and ads. Not only that, but they also know their specific audiences. For example, if someone frequently attends the gym and purchased a few fitness equipment for their house online, they will find advertisements of fitness related products in their mailbox, emails, and social media. Additionally, I enjoyed topics discussing privacy. The content and information this course provided about serious issues across the internet and social media websites with privacy and hacking, has really opened my eyes and motivated me to be aware of how and who I present myself to online. I found the course to be very organized and uniquely structured. The idea of learning one, new unit every week, due at the end of the week, gave me enough time to fully understand and grasp that unit and then also look forward to learning a new one. This kept the course at a good and tasteful pace. I have never taken an online course before, so I am grateful this course was where I started. This course has forced me to take a step back and envision myself as an experienced writer from the outside looking into today’s society, connect interrelations, and draw conclusions.
